B.A.U.H.A.U.S.

I’m one of those losers that watch the Ovation network. Heheh.

They had a special on the Bauhaus, this art school/movement that took place in Germany in the 1910’s or 20’s or whatever. They were art students, extremely radical and idealistic art students who let their hair grow long and their women wear trousers. (Inconceivable, I know!) They believed in the idea of beauty in function, taking this ideal to the extreme and creating the foundation of all that we know to be modern.

It was a new idea, and it was beautiful.

It’s also the reason for our dull, gray cities.

But nonetheless, still beautiful to me the very least.

I can’t get it out of my mind.

Prologue to my novel

I’m gonna write a novel in one month! lol.

PROLOGUE.

It was a glorious sunset, Lukus Webster (or Luke, as he preferred to be called) thought to himself as he perched precariously upon the thin and nimble branches of his cedar-home. He made careful note of every brilliant hue that painted the sky:

Salmon pinks, orange-peaches, and soft sulfuric-yellow clouds.

As the sun slowly sank behind the mountainous landscape, he couldn’t help but feel a sinking feeling of dread in his quivering gizzard. For as beautiful as the sunset may be, nothing could distract him from the frightful hoots of the owls and the howling of the wild dogs that were emitted from the darkening landscape behind him. Just as he was about to retreat back into the warm safetiness of his nest nestled deep within the tree, he couldn’t help but hesitate. Looking back at the sky ablaze with colors longingly, he muttered (With just a slight hint of contempt towards himself), “What a conundrum..”

So, finding himself longing to watch the sunset in its whole more than he feared being eaten by one of the various night creatures that lurked the forest, he did his best to swallow his trepidations and hold out just a little bit longer. And he remained on that thin and nimble branch to see the very last sliver of sunlight diminish behind a mountain and watch his entire world be enveloped by lush darkness.

Luke, being quite the nyctophobe (A fancy term for “one who is afraid of the dark”), could feel the inky blackness pressing down against his eyelids. Stumbling clumsily through the dark, he got the glimpse of something peeking up over the mountain. Although his anxieties were running high, he suppressed them the best he could since his curiosity was captured. What rose above the horizon was perhaps the most incandescent and radiant thing his beady eyes had ever witnessed. His fears appeased and his fancy enticed, with his feathered wing he reached out longingly to the ivory orb against the thick ebony, adorned with its sparkling diamonds.

Suddenly feeling deeply infatuated, lovesick even, he wistfully (with a frightful undertone of determination) sighed, “I must have her.”

And so twas the blue jay that fell in love with the moon.

Person Spotlight Of The Week!

I think I’m gonna start doing this now…

Anyway! This week’s featured person of the week is……….

RICHARD DAWKINS! YAY!

Lololololol

Everybody's favorite Atheist!

If I had to describe Richard Dawkins in three words I would choose these: Atheist, grumpy, and British. Best known for his book called  The God Delusion, in which he explains (according to wikipedia) “that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist.” (Most convincing/aggressive argument against God I have ever heard. Lol.)

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate this guy. I don’t really care about all that religious mumbo-jumbo. And in my Inquiry Skills class last year we watched a ton of interviews with this guy. Sure, we made fun of him, (He actually argued for intelligent design… Under the premises that our DNA was created by aliens…) but if we weren’t making fun of him I would probably have been bored. So there!

You also gotta thank him for the word meme which he introduced in his Neo-Darwinist book The Selfish Gene.

Ohoho, Richard Dawkins…

Ophiuchus

The zodiac is kinda a weird phenomena. Astronomer’s from different civilizations, thousands of miles apart, have all picked out the same pattern in the sky. The movement of the constellations across the path of the sun. It’s kinda weird lol.

Anyway, as of 2008, something crazy happened! (Crazy things keep happening in our times, doesn’t it seem so?) I am not very clear on how this occurred, but a new constellation crossed into the path of the sun and is now a part of the zodiac all of a sudden! It’s name is Ophiuchus. It’s basically some guy holding a snake…

To be completely honest, I don’t like this Ophiuchus guy. He just totally ruined the entire zodiac. Before he interjected himself oh so rudely into the whole deal, the zodiac had 12 constellations, 4 elements that were divided evenly amongst the constellations, and three different qualities (Fixed, Cardinal, and Mutable) Now there’s 13 people, and it’s completely thrown off balance D:<

I am gonna write an angry email to that guy who made Pluto not a planet. I’m assuming he is responsible for this, since he’s always ruining everything.

DAMN YOU.

DAMN YOU.

Crystal Castles/Fantastic Mr. Fox

Hey-yo. I’ve been kinda dead lately cause I forgot I had a blog/my life isn’t all that interesting (That’s a lie, my life has actually been veeeery interesting). But whatever, I suppose I’ll just pick up right where I left off :)

Crystal Castles

They are quite bizarre, but it shouldn’t be all that surprising that I would like them. Unless you are into hardcore techno beats with screaming voices or absolutely freaked out music, I don’t recommend them. However many of their remixes of other songs are super good, super catchy.

Air War

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson. Nuff said.

fun./Earl Grey Tea

Before I post some music, let me just take the time to share with you probably one of the most tasty thing ever:

Get some earl grey tea, put the bag in some cool water in a jar with the lid on and have it sit outside in the sun for 4 hours or so. Then chill it for another hour and add sugar and ice, and it’s amazing <3 Reminds me of this earl grey tea ice cream I had once. mmmm, anyway!

FUN.

With Nate Reuss from The Format… It’s quite amazing, looking forward for their debut album, Aim and Ignite coming out sometime in August. I regret not being able to see them when they came to the State Theatre with Manchester Orchestra D:

At Least I’m Not As Sad (As I Use To Be)
