Prologue to my novel

I’m gonna write a novel in one month! lol.

PROLOGUE.

It was a glorious sunset, Lukus Webster (or Luke, as he preferred to be called) thought to himself as he perched precariously upon the thin and nimble branches of his cedar-home. He made careful note of every brilliant hue that painted the sky:

Salmon pinks, orange-peaches, and soft sulfuric-yellow clouds.

As the sun slowly sank behind the mountainous landscape, he couldn’t help but feel a sinking feeling of dread in his quivering gizzard. For as beautiful as the sunset may be, nothing could distract him from the frightful hoots of the owls and the howling of the wild dogs that were emitted from the darkening landscape behind him. Just as he was about to retreat back into the warm safetiness of his nest nestled deep within the tree, he couldn’t help but hesitate. Looking back at the sky ablaze with colors longingly, he muttered (With just a slight hint of contempt towards himself), “What a conundrum..”

So, finding himself longing to watch the sunset in its whole more than he feared being eaten by one of the various night creatures that lurked the forest, he did his best to swallow his trepidations and hold out just a little bit longer. And he remained on that thin and nimble branch to see the very last sliver of sunlight diminish behind a mountain and watch his entire world be enveloped by lush darkness.

Luke, being quite the nyctophobe (A fancy term for “one who is afraid of the dark”), could feel the inky blackness pressing down against his eyelids. Stumbling clumsily through the dark, he got the glimpse of something peeking up over the mountain. Although his anxieties were running high, he suppressed them the best he could since his curiosity was captured. What rose above the horizon was perhaps the most incandescent and radiant thing his beady eyes had ever witnessed. His fears appeased and his fancy enticed, with his feathered wing he reached out longingly to the ivory orb against the thick ebony, adorned with its sparkling diamonds.

Suddenly feeling deeply infatuated, lovesick even, he wistfully (with a frightful undertone of determination) sighed, “I must have her.”

And so twas the blue jay that fell in love with the moon.

Dammit Sara, why was that so amazing? Birds creep me out, yet I want to read this. Too bad you didn’t do it for NaNoWiMo though.
